Working on the Right Thing in the Right Direction

cropped-things-you-should-focus-onWe people are full of dreams! We always wish to strive and grab the best that we think we deserve to have. We always give our full efforts and hard works to achieve everything. We also think that attaining those things justifies the success of our deeds. But do you think that your hard work and efforts must be solely recognized for your success? The answer is no! Just like humans, we can’t do things without the help of others. Just like the saying “No man is an island” , we need people to help us. Another instance is a business; we cannot fully start up a small scale business without manpower. Remember we always needs back up, we always have the combination of values in order to achieve the desired goals we want.

Even you work hard but if you don’t have any goals or visions, the possibility of tracking the wrong way is there. We should always set our visions and priorities to hit our target. That’s why in any starting business, planning is very necessary. You will never see a business, whether big or small scale, that has no mission, vision, goals and objectives. Why? Because these VMGO’s served as the pillars of their trade. Without these, the way to success is blurry and unclear.

To all people there, to all business enterprises and to all individuals, we don’t only need hard work. An hour of being alone and thinking of your goals and priorities is very essential. It is imperative to determine such things to achieve the triumph. Do it slowly but surely, you will realize that progress comes in a time. Do hard works, set your priorities, apply the right values, always put your best foot forward and reach success!

Hey there folks good morning and welcome! My name is Thom Rigsby from and this is “7 Minutes in the Morning”.

Well, that is right, you have found “7 Minutes in the Morning” where you can get your daily dose from the business coach that is me, my name is Thom Rigsby. First, of all, let me thank you and apologize to you. Last week I took a week off and I got without any warning really and I got lots of tweets and e-mails and questions because making sure you are okay, that were a thing. Thank you for that concern I appreciate that and I apologize for not giving you any forewarning. One of things that I do on a regular basis and one of the things I am encourage you to do on a regular basis is just take some time to reflect, look at the things that are going on, look at your priority, look at your goals, look at your vision and make sure that you are heading in the right direction. And that is one of things I was able to spend some time doing last week and I actually have an opportunity coming up next week, but I am not going to take a week off from the show.

But one of the things that came from that, all of our shows this week are going to be a result of that time that I took last week to how look at where things are and where things are going and I want to share some of those things with you and I hope that, you will give me some feedback about the show and the things that I am doing to help you. But also, so that it will give you a reason to think about the things you have going on.

Today, I want to share a saying with you that, I am sure over 200 episodes I have shared this with you at some point, but it is something that I tell people face to face very often. You can work really hard digging a ditch with a tablespoon, but it does not mean it is the right thing to do. In the context to that is usually, “well wow Thom I am working really hard with this, I just do not seem to be getting the results that I was hoping for.” Working hard is not the only prerequisite to getting results in your life, in your business and in the things that you strive to do. If working hard was all that was required, then sure you can do that work really hard and be successful in everything. The reality is though, that we need to work hard doing the right things and that is where the saying really came from. I can work really hard and not be doing the right things. My grandmother had a great saying that was really similar to this thing, she said, “you can rock all day in a rocking chair and never go anywhere”.

Yes, hardwork is important and yes, to be successful we have to put a lot of effort, a lot of work into it, but that is not the only thing we have to do. We have to be certain that the things we are doing, the direction we are going, the goals that we are pursuing are all moving us toward the results that we want. Now, a couple of weeks ago I shared with you my vision based framework, if you have not seen that you can get that a very easily just go to Vision Based Framework that will take you there and ask you for your e-mail address and then give you the worksheet that I put together to help you define your vision, your goals, your projects and tasks identify some of your values and it will tell you about the most important thing you have to do in order to achieve that vision. That is also a topic that will address on the show this week. I am not quite ready to give that one away, but go there and check that out for Vision Based Framework that will get you to the right page. So, just commemorate as we apart today you get ready to go out, enjoy your day and pursue your success. Make sure that the things that you are working on, that the effort that you are putting into your goals, your projects, your success are actually moving you in the right direction. I would love to hear your feedback from that and continue to send those emails Thom at we can hook up on tweeter that @thomrigsby that is the only place by the way where you have to use the “H” everywhere else I figured out where am not so good with tweeter long. Anyway, add me up on tweeter @thomrigsby or find me
on facebook,

That is it for today until tomrrow, remember my name is Thom Rigsby I am your business coach. Take care.

Okay now! For a little bit of the secret show I have done one of these in a while. Anyway, I hope the audio sounds better, this is audio only this week and I just want to give you a little bit more insight into my break that I took last week. I was on the road, I went to speak in a conference and I guess being away, giving me a chance to work on some of the vision based things was really important and I have found myself spending hours working on that and even though I took the pick where I took the things with me that I needed in order to do the show. I started looking at from a priority perspective and I have shared this with you many times, you have to choose the one thing, the one priority that is going to make a difference and in that time away and that time were I had a great deal, a quiet time to myself I was making great progress working on that priority, working on that vision of where need to take my business, so I often to spend that time working on those things. Hopefully, you will see the fruits of those labors this week in this week’s show and then a lot of the things that I am putting together for the future.

Thank you for your patience, thank you for your concern that I disappear and I am now and we will be back on with the show. Remember success requires action do not forget to go out and take action, just make sure, please make sure your working on the right things. I talk to you tomorrow, have a great day, see you then.

The Power of Mindset

There are some key things that one must have in order to succeed in any given business. One of these is having the right mindset. Whereas this might seem unrealistic, several researches have revealed that it has a huge bearing on individual or business success. According to several interviews of some successful businessmen of early 20th century that are documented in Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, having the right mindset is instrumental in achieving success. These businessmen emphasized that you have to believe that you can do it and take action.

It’s also generally believed that perception is 100% reality. For example, you can look at something and, before touching it, conclude that it will be painful to touch it. The influence could also be from the people around you who try to make you believe that of course it will be painful. However, your perception might change if you go ahead and touch it. In relation to your success, you can ask yourself questions such as: What’s your perception today about your success? Do you believe that you you’re being held back by something; maybe external forces or circumstances? These are some of the things you need to look into to ascertain whether you truly have the right mindset.

How Your Perception Would Influence Your Success

To begin with, it’s obvious that you can’t succeed without taking action. However, to take action, you’ll need a mindset that assures you that you can do it, regardless of the prevailing circumstances. Think of a case where you want to start a business or expand it in a way; if you cringe because of the general economic situation, you might not take action to start or expand it. Maybe you have the feeling that your target market is limited in terms of disposable income or that they won’t buy from you because there are other businesses that offer similar services or products. If you focus on these your urge to take action will be dampened.

The more you think about something, the more it becomes real to you. Consequently, if you keep on thinking about failure or how difficult it’s going to be, that will become your reality. If on the contrary you think positively, such circumstances could just turn into opportunities. Instead of focusing on the NO that customers might give you, you’ll be thinking of what to do with a YES, or better still, how to turn the NO into a YES.

As a result, perceived roadblocks will be your opportunities. And that will be your advantage as you progress towards success.

Hey there folks, Thom Rigsby here from This week we’re going to about mindset. Before you switch off and go to the next podcast, there are some really interesting facts in here, some really interesting possibilities and you just need to hear them. Stay tuned, 7 Minutes in the Morning is coming up next.

Hey there folks, good morning and welcome. This is 7 Minutes in the Morning; it’s your daily dose from me, your business coach. My name is Thom Rigsby and this is the show where we take one topic every day or maybe a theme for the week and break it apart, unpeel that onion and all in the hopes of helping you build a better business. This week I want to talk to you about mindset and today especially I want to talk to you about the power of mindset.

There are some different opinions and I’ll just go ahead and confess to you that I had an opinion that this stuff was a bunch of [hoodie]. But over time I have come to find out that this is one of the single most effective methods for achieving the success that you’re looking for. Now, let me say that again. This is one of the single most effective methods for achieving the success that you’re looking for. In fact some people say it’s not possible to achieve the success you’re looking for if you don’t have the right mindset. Frankly I’m becoming a believer, so let me tell you what I’m talking about here.

There is a book, I’m sure many of you have heard of, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill. That was a work that is a compilation of the interviews that the author made with a lot of – at the time early 20th century – a lot of very wealthy, very successful businessmen. After talking with 30 or 40 businessmen, he came away with this idea that the single most important factor, in achieving success, is to believe that you can. You’ve heard me say before that – especially a week or two ago we talked about the vision based frame work for success and the most important aspect of that is choosing to make a change – that if you don’t chose to make a change, none of the rest of the frame work matters. It’s choosing to make a change. That’s what I’m talking about today with the power of mindset.

Some people and I’ve been doing some research, trying to find some definitive work or answers here and seems the jury is still out on this. Some psychologists and psychiatrists have suggested that people with multiple personality disorder can do things – when they switch personalities – they can do things like change the color of their eyes, their allergies change so that they have different physical responses to allergens. Also it’s some pretty significant changes just affected by the power of changing the mind and in that case of what’s in control or who’s in control I guess. I am not suggesting that you have to have multiple personalities to be successful. What I am suggesting is that the power of thought, the power of what you believe, is a very potent thing.

I used to say that perception is 90 per cent of reality, now it’s 100 per cent of reality. How many times have you looked at something and thought, “That’s going to be painful if I touch it.” No matter what anybody tells you, you believe that it will be painful. That’s your perception and that’s 100 percent of your reality. Your perception may change after you touch it and find out that it’s cold instead of hot, dull instead of sharp, whatever the case may be. Then your perception may change and you believe something different. But it’s very real to you when your perception is that that will hurt, that’s very real to you.

Here is what I want you to do; here is how we’re going to take this away today. What is your perception today about your success? Do you believe that you’re being held back by external forces, external circumstances? Well, you know Thom the economy is bad right now; it’s a bad time to start a business. Well, there’s a lot of unknowns around insurance and I’ve got insurance now, maybe I need to keep this job. Well I can’t, my customers that I’m marketing to, they don’t have a lot of disposable income. All of those are excuses made to put the blame off somewhere else.

I’m not saying they’re not true; maybe your target customer has had a reduction in disposable income. The point that I want to make is for you to stop thinking about them. The more we think about something the more it becomes real to us and the more that it manifests to us. Just go back to this example that I had. I’ve got something here and I believe that it is going to be painful to touch. If I sit here and think about how painful it’s going to be to reach out and touch that object, the more I’m going to convince myself that it’s going to hurt. What if I – instead of thinking about how painful it was – started thinking about the success of having touched it and survived?

Think about your business this way, stop thinking about why people are not saying yes. Don’t think about why people are saying no, start thinking about what you’re going to achieve when they say yes. Start thinking about when you get a yes, how excited and dedicated you can be to that customer because your other customers, your other prospects, have said no. If you spend more time thinking about the positive then you’ll begin to see opportunities where other people see road blocks. That’s going to be an advantage for you because they’re going to be held back by these road blocks and you’re going to be blasting through them on your road to success.

So what do you think about mindset and the power that mindset plays in your success? I’d love to hear from you, shoot me an e-mail, or you can find me on Twitter its Thom Risgby or you can find us on Face book too, Thom Rigsby Coaching. All three of those get you to the same place that get [to?] me. I’d love to hear your feedback and hear your questions about mindset. Go ahead and send those in and we’ll be back tomorrow to talk about some specific mindset obstacles to overcome. Until then, my name is Thom Rigsby, I’m your business coach.

The Mindset of Being Generous

This week we have been talking about the power of a positive mindset trying to figure out what it can do for you and the success of your business. Today I will talk to you a bit about being generous. We will find out what being generous has to do with finding your success.

When I say being generous, I guarantee you that 99% of your thought of money, being generous with money. The truth is that most people understand the idea of being generous but they also believe that they got to pay themselves first. However, the idea about being generous that I will bring to you today has very little to do with how much you give away, it has nothing to do with money. It will have everything to do with the mindset of how you can help other people.

There are more other things apart from money you can be generous with. There is your time, your talents and your treasures if that’s what represents your money. Are you generous with your time? Do you connect with customers, other businessmen and new people you meet? Engaging them in a relationship asking them what they do in the community and trying to find ways in which your lives intersect. If you are a service provider making sure you deliver ample value for the value your customer is giving you. That’s being generous with your time. You can do the same with your talents. Those things you can do in a community that other people can’t do or find it difficult doing.

Money and treasures also do apply and you should also be generous with those as well not only because you should but because it develops this mindset of thinking about money that most people don’t have. Think about this: If you develop a mindset that money was easy to come by and therefore giving it away is no big deal it might be difficult to get generous with it but if you approach it from a different mindset that you can give money away and therefore making it must not be difficult, you will attract the same thing you give away. If you want new things to come into your life you have to let go of some of the old to make room for the new. That applies to everything; money, people, treasures, talents and business.

Hey there folks, good morning. My name is Thom Rigsby from This week we’re talking about mindset and today we’re talking about being generous. What is being generous have to do with finding your success? Well, stay tuned, I’ll tell you. 7 Minutes in the Morning is coming right up.

Hey there folks, good morning and welcome. This is 7 Minutes in the Morning; it’s your daily dose from me, your business coach. My name is Thom Rigsby and this is the show where we take one topic every day, break it down and help you build a better business. This week we’ve been talking about mindset and the power of a positive mindset. What it can do for you and your success in your business. Today I want to talk to you a little bit about being generous.

A lot of people understand the ideas of being generous. I want to be generous, I want to help other people, but they also believe they’ve had somebody say somewhere, “Well, you’ve got to pay yourself first.” Here’s the idea behind being generous, it has absolutely zero to do with how much you give away. It’s got nothing to do with money; it has to do with a mindset. How can you help other people? I say ‘being generous’ and I guarantee 99 per cent of you thought ‘money’, being generous with money but there is more than money that you can be generous with.

You have time, you have talents and you have treasures. If treasures represent your money, how are you being generous with your time? When you have customers come in to your retail space, do you get them in, get them out, get them in, get them paid, get them out as fast as possible? Are you spending time with them, building a relationship? When you go networking events and do you treat it like a speed dating event. You try to get around to everybody in the room, collect as many business cards as you can or you’re being generous with your time? You are engaging in a relationship with that person that you just met. Ask them about their business; ask them about what they’re involved in, in the community. See if there are ways that your lives intersect.

Be generous with your time. If you’re a service provider like me, you sell your time, make sure that you’re delivering ample value for the value that your customer is giving you. For example, I do one on one coaching. Generally we do that in hour long sessions. We know if we’re deep into it and that 60 minutes mark comes rolling around I’m not going to say “Up and the rest of it away for next week.” We go ahead and we finish that topic. I’m generous with the time that I gave to the people who’ve been generous enough to give me value in the form of some kind of compensation. So next time be generous with your time.

What about your talents? In your community you can do things that other people can’t do. We were talking about this with a friend yesterday, how some things seem so simple to us because as a business owner we get into business in an area that seems simple to us. So we look at it sometimes and we’ve this tendency to think “Oh, that’s easy, nobody is going to pay me for that.” For somebody that’s very difficult. Here’s a great example. I was visiting with our oldest daughter not too long ago and she asked me to change a light bulb. I said “Yeah, sure I’ll change the light bulb.” I reached up and changed the light bulb. I said “Well, is that hard?” And she’s like “Well, I just have to bring the step stool down from upstairs and now I’ve got to …” and it didn’t even occur to me that she’s about this tall on me and her reach isn’t the same reach that I have. So something that was very simple for me was a bit of an ordeal for her. Those things occur in your community, both on your physical community, your online community, your business and personal communities.

What are ways that you can be generous with your talents in that community? Money does apply, treasures also applies. Be generous with those as well. There’s a reason for this, it’s not just because you should. But it develops as mindset; it develops a way of thinking about those things that most people don’t have. Think about this for a minute. If you developed a mindset that money was easy to come by and so giving it away is no big deal. That might be difficult, but if you approached it from the other direction and say “I can give money away and so making it must not be a big deal.” It puts you into a position where “Ok, I’ve got to.” Instead what most people do is “You know, when I make my millions I will be very generous with it.” How about be generous with what you already have and if you believe in mindset then the millions will come. You will attract the same thing that you give away. You have to make more room in your life. If you want new things to come into your life, you have to let go of some of the old to make room for the new. That applies to money, it applies to people, it applies to talents, treasures, business – everything. If you want new to come in, you’ve got to let go of some of the old.

What do you think about that? Does that resonate with your or is that just sound like a bunch left field [hoodie?] to you. Either way, I would love to get an e-mail from you telling me what you think. You can send that e-mail to or go ahead and tweet me on Twitter. You can find me there at Thom Rigsby. Either way, I want to hear from you. Send those cards and letters. Tomorrow is Friday; we’ll be back with another mindset topic and the solid blessing and wish for the weekend. Until then, my name is Thom Rigsby and I’m your business coach.
